How To Choose Features For Your New Home

Yesterday we were at our house and saw that the front porch, garage floor, and basement floor concrete had been poured and was curing. Once again, I’m always amazed at how perfectly smooth these contractors get the concrete. I know they use a leveling bar to smooth it out, but it seems as though there would be a million ways to mess this up.

You can really see our egress window in the photo I took to the left and it’s going to be a great addition to any space we finish down the road with all of the sunlight it allows. House plans with walkout basements offer typically a sliding glass door and windows to add that extra sunlight basement spaces often crave. But, we’re very content with our standard basement foundation and I typically like the security of not having a walkout basement and an additional entry into our home. Our U-shaped staircase that leads to the basement has also been constructed and now we’re beginning to see plumbing and electrical lines fill the spaces in between the framing in both of the bathrooms and also in the kitchen. At this point, it would not be wise of us to think about changing anything with our builder. Making changes while building can often create an opportunity for mistakes and overall confusion. Those mistakes cause headaches financially as well as with the overall building schedule your contractor is trying to stick to. I’m very happy to see that for the most part, we remembered everything we wanted in our house design. I’m sure we’ll run across a feature we’re going to wish we had later, but all in all, we’re satisfied. Taking the time to really think through the features we wanted helped us make sure we didn’t overlook anything.

One thing we knew we wanted and we were willing to pay for was vaulted ceilings in the main living spaces. We’re also big fans of sunlight, so we added three additional windows to our home. Honestly, I could’ve added even more than that. But, it’s easy to get carried away with additions and the expenses can definitely start to add up.

If you decide to build one of those house plans you see online, remember that websites like House Plans and More have the best advanced search tool to really help you find the amenities and features you have on your wish list. You name it – from house plans with two master suites, to more common house plans with open floor plans, this site has countless options – it seems like finding that exact home would be so easy. And, it’s definitely fun to use the advanced search tool to narrow down house plan choices even if you’re only dreaming like many people do. I recommend taking a look at this search tool closely if you’re looking for house plans. It can really help you discover what features you can’t live without, as well as the features that you dream about including in your new home.

First of all I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do not
mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I’ve had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out.

I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes
are generally lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?

    Many thanks!
