Island

A kitchen island is an unattached counter usually centered within the kitchen that allows access from all sides. Adding a kitchen island offers an opportunity to add additional food preparation space, casual seating and dining and storage possibilities. A kitchen island is not only functional, but it can add visual interest to the kitchen floor plan as well by using different counterspace material for the top surface such as a butcher block or marble. Also, a kitchen island can be lit in a way that adds drama to the kitchen making this place the main focal point. Often a separate vegetable sink can be found here for added function.
